Martha and Sue Heywood |
Last year we told the story of 19 year-old, shack-dweller, Martha Come, from Toekomsrus, Randfontein.
She grew up without a father and five years ago the young woman's mother died, leaving behind a 13 year-old girl to care for both herself and her seven year-old brother, Jake.
The home she shares with him is just a one-roomed shack not far from the Drop-in Centre but it is kept spotless and ship-shape.
At the time Martha was preparing for her final matric exams. She passed all her subjects and this week starts a two-year diploma course in Human Resource studies at Crane International College in Mpumalanga. Once completed, she plans to enrol with the Tshwane University where she will use her earned study credits towards a degree.
Martha is receiving financial assistance for her studies through the good efforts of Sue Heywood and her team of US angels.
